NuScale Power Corporation (NYSE: SMR) is a nuclear technology company developing small modular reactor technology designed to deliver safe, scalable, cost-effective and reliable carbon-free power. The company's core product is the NuScale Power Module, a 77-megawatt electric light water nuclear reactor that integrates the reactor core, steam generators and pressurizer within a single factory-built vessel. The NPM leverages established nuclear technology principles refined over 60 years of global operation while incorporating innovative design features including natural circulation cooling, passive safety systems and a simplified architecture that eliminates many components found in conventional large-scale reactors.
NuScale operates as a single business segment focused on the development and commercialization of small modular reactor technology and associated services. The company has invested over 1.8 billion dollars in technology development since 2007, including more than 578 million dollars in cost-share support from the U.S. Department of Energy. NuScale holds 513 issued patents globally with an additional 268 patent applications pending. In September 2020, the company's 12-module design became the first and only small modular reactor to receive a Standard Design Approval from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. In May 2025, the NRC approved the company's second SDA application for its 6-unit 77-megawatt design.
