What OLD REPUBLIC INTERNATIONAL CORP does

In the company’s own words

Old Republic International Corporation (NASDAQ: OLDR) operates as a Chicago-based insurance holding company engaged in underwriting and related services through its subsidiaries. The company maintains a website at https://www.oldrepublic.com and conducts its business across two primary reportable segments: Specialty Insurance and Title Insurance.

The Specialty Insurance segment represents the larger division, generating approximately 67% of consolidated revenues and focusing on commercial lines insurance for businesses, state and local governments, and institutions. This segment does not maintain meaningful exposure to homeowners or private auto coverages. Instead, it concentrates on specific economic sectors including transportation, commercial construction, healthcare, education, retail and wholesale trade, forest products, energy, general manufacturing, and financial services. Major coverages within Specialty Insurance include commercial auto, workers' compensation, property, general liability, financial indemnity, home and auto warranty, cyber, environmental, and excess and surplus lines. Approximately 95% of Specialty Insurance premiums are produced through independent agency or brokerage channels.

The Title Insurance segment, representing approximately 33% of consolidated revenues, issues policies to real estate purchasers and investors based on public record searches. This segment provides both lenders' policies and owners' policies for one-time premiums and operates through 246 branch offices and owned agency subsidiaries across all 50 states and the District of Columbia, supplemented by independent title agents accounting for approximately 78% of premium volume. Title Insurance also provides escrow closing services, construction disbursement services, real estate information products, and national default management services.

Old Republic employs approximately 9,500 associates and maintains insurance subsidiaries licensed to operate in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Canadian provinces. The company's investment portfolio emphasizes investment-grade fixed income securities and dividend-paying, large capitalization equity securities, reflecting a conservative approach aligned with long-term policyholder obligations. The company manages its business with a long-term perspective, emphasizing favorable underwriting results over cycles and maintaining sound financial condition to support obligations to policyholders and beneficiaries.
