In the company’s own words
Oscar Health, Inc. (NYSE: OSCAR) is a healthcare technology company that operates as a leading health insurer in the individual market, serving approximately 2.0 million effectuated members as of December 31, 2025. The company's website is www.hioscar.com.
Founded in 2012, Oscar built its business around a proprietary cloud-native technology platform designed to deliver superior member experiences and engagement. The company offers health plans across five metal plan categories—Catastrophic, Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum—primarily through the federal Health Insurance Marketplaces established by the Affordable Care Act, as well as through off-exchange channels and Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangements (ICHRA) programs. For the year ended December 31, 2025, 93 percent of premiums were earned directly from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services through the Advanced Premium Tax Credits program, with the remaining 7 percent from members.
Oscar operates in 18 states as of 2025, with plans to expand to 20 states in 2026, generating the vast majority of revenue from health insurance policy premiums. The company's differentiated competitive advantages center on its end-to-end technology platform spanning member and provider data, utilization management, claims processing, billing, and benefits administration. This integrated approach enables personalized member engagement through features including virtual care, Care Guides, and Campaign Builder, an engagement platform leveraging artificial intelligence and predictive analytics.
Beyond its core insurance business, Oscar operates the +Oscar platform, which extends its technology to external providers and payors, currently serving nearly 0.6 million client lives. In 2025, the company acquired three businesses to support its ICHRA strategy and long-term vision to build a consumer health marketplace: Lucie, Inc., a CMS-approved direct enrollment technology platform; IHC Specialty Benefits, Inc., an individual market brokerage; and Healthinsurance.org, LLC, a consumer education website.
As of December 31, 2025, Oscar employed approximately 2,305 people. The company maintains provider networks including exclusive provider organization plans in most markets and HMO plans in select markets, contracting with major health systems across the United States. Oscar's business model emphasizes selective networks and value-based payment arrangements alongside traditional fee-for-service structures.
