The company operates 16 active coal mining operations, including a 50% equity interest in Middlemount Coal Pty Ltd. Peabody's business is organized into four reportable segments: Seaborne Thermal, Seaborne Metallurgical, Powder River Basin, and Other U.S. Thermal. The Seaborne segments represent approximately 51% of total revenue from coal supply agreements, while the U.S. thermal operations account for approximately 49% of revenue.
The company's primary products are metallurgical coal used in steel production and thermal coal used for electricity generation. Peabody supplies coal to electricity generators, industrial facilities, and steel manufacturers primarily through long-term coal supply agreements, which comprised approximately 87% of worldwide sales by volume in 2025.
