In the company’s own words
Pfizer Inc. (NYSE: PFE) is a research-based global biopharmaceutical company headquartered in New York and operates through its website at www.pfizer.com. The company applies science and global resources to discover, develop, manufacture, market, sell and distribute biopharmaceutical products worldwide, focusing on extending and significantly improving patients' lives through medicines and vaccines that address major diseases.
The company operates through three primary divisions within its Biopharma reportable segment, which represents the only reportable segment. The Pfizer U.S. Commercial Division commercializes the entire product portfolio in the United States. The Pfizer International Commercial Division handles commercialization across all international markets. The Global Hospital and Biosimilars organization manages off-patent branded and generic sterile injectables and biosimilars. Additionally, Pfizer operates PC1, a contract development and manufacturing organization supplying specialty active pharmaceutical ingredients, and Pfizer Ignite, which provides R&D services to biotech companies, though the company decided to discontinue Ignite in 2025.
Pfizer's product portfolio spans four primary therapeutic areas: oncology, internal medicine including cardiometabolic and weight management treatments, vaccines for infectious diseases, and inflammation and immunology. Major brands include Comirnaty (COVID-19 vaccine developed with BioNTech), Paxlovid (COVID-19 treatment), Eliquis (anticoagulant), Prevnar family (pneumococcal vaccines), Xtandi (prostate cancer treatment), Ibrance (breast cancer treatment), and the Vyndaqel family (amyloidosis treatment). The company also maintains collaboration and co-promotion agreements with partners including BioNTech, Bristol-Myers Squibb, and Astellas for various products.
The company's R&D operations are managed through a single global organization focused on discovering and developing highly differentiated medicines and vaccines. As of early 2026, Pfizer maintained numerous projects in various development stages across its therapeutic focus areas. The company pursues business development through acquisitions, in-licensing agreements, and strategic partnerships to enhance its pipeline and capabilities. Recent significant transactions include the November 2025 acquisition of Metsera and the December 2023 acquisition of Seagen, along with in-licensing agreements with YaoPharma and 3SBio in obesity, cardiometabolic diseases, and oncology.
