What REX AMERICAN RESOURCES Corp does
In the company’s own words
REX American Resources Corporation (NASDAQ: REX) operates as a renewable fuels company focused on ethanol production and carbon sequestration initiatives. The company's website is www.rexamerican.com.
REX maintains equity investments in three ethanol production entities that collectively own six dry-milling ethanol facilities across the Midwest. As of January 31, 2026, the company held a 76.1% ownership stake in One Earth Energy located in Gibson City, Illinois; a 99.7% stake in NuGen Energy in Marion, South Dakota; and a 10.3% stake in Big River Resources with facilities in West Burlington, Iowa; Galva, Illinois; Dyersville, Iowa; and Boyceville, Wisconsin. These consolidated and unconsolidated entities shipped approximately 722 million gallons of ethanol during the twelve-month period ended January 31, 2026, with REX's effective ownership representing approximately 294 million gallons.
The company's core business involves producing denatured ethanol through dry milling processes that convert corn into fuel-grade alcohol. The ethanol production generates significant by-products including dried distillers grains with solubles, wet distillers grains, and distillers corn oil, which are marketed as animal feed ingredients and renewable feedstocks. REX's ethanol is primarily used as a blend component in gasoline to meet federal Renewable Fuel Standard mandates, as a clean air additive through oxygenation, and as an octane enhancer.
REX employs 132 people across its two consolidated ethanol plants and corporate headquarters in Dayton, Ohio. The company owns approximately 1,591 acres of land associated with its consolidated ethanol operations and maintains a corporate office building of approximately 7,500 square feet.
The company is actively developing a carbon sequestration facility near the One Earth Energy plant to reduce carbon intensity scores and qualify for federal tax credits under Section 45Z and Section 45Q of the Internal Revenue Code. REX has also signed an agreement to deliver carbon from its NuGen facility to an outside party for sequestration. These initiatives represent significant capital commitments totaling approximately $58.9 million as of the most recent year-end.
REX maintains registered service marks for "REX" and "Farmer's Energy" with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The company has authorized a stock repurchase program and evaluates various energy-related, carbon sequestration, and agricultural investment opportunities aligned with its investment criteria.
