Ribbon Communications Inc. (NASDAQ: RBBN) is a global provider of communications technology serving service providers and enterprises across more than 140 countries. The company delivers software and hardware products, network solutions, and services that enable secure delivery of data and voice communications, high-bandwidth networking, and connectivity for residential consumers and organizations ranging from small businesses to large enterprises across verticals including finance, education, government, utilities, and transportation. Ribbon operates through two primary business segments: Cloud and Edge, and IP Optical Networks.
The Cloud and Edge segment provides secure software and hardware products for VoIP, Voice over LTE, Voice over 5G, and unified communications services deployed across private, public, and hybrid cloud infrastructures. This segment includes Session Border Controller products, network transformation solutions, and the Acumen AIOps and Automation platform. The IP Optical Networks segment delivers high-performance hardware and software for IP networking, switching, routing, and optical transport, serving access, metro, regional, and long-haul network requirements with products including the Apollo optical transport line and Neptune switching and routing solutions.
Ribbon was formed in October 2017 through the merger of Sonus Networks and GENBAND US LLC, both specialists in secure VoIP technology. The company has since completed several strategic acquisitions, most notably ECI Telecom Group Ltd. in March 2020, which expanded the portfolio into optical transport and IP networking. The company maintains research and development or sales and support locations in over 30 countries and employs a global workforce distributed across multiple centers of excellence. Verizon Communications represented approximately 17 percent of revenue in 2025, while the top five customers collectively accounted for approximately 41 percent of revenue. The company manufactures products through global contract manufacturers and original design manufacturers, maintaining intellectual property control over fabrication and assembly processes.
