What Sable Offshore Corp. does
In the company’s own words
Sable Offshore Corp. (NYSE: SOC) is an oil and natural gas exploration and production company focused on offshore and onshore operations in federal waters and state lands offshore California. The company acquired the Santa Ynez Unit assets, comprising 16 federal leases across approximately 76,000 acres with 100 percent working interest and an average 83.6 percent net revenue interest, through a business combination that closed on February 14, 2024. The Santa Ynez Unit includes three offshore production platforms—Hondo, Harmony, and Heritage—located five to nine miles offshore Santa Barbara County in water depths of 900 to 1,200 feet, servicing 112 wells comprised of 90 producers, 12 injectors, and 10 idle wells, with an additional 102 identified undrilled opportunities.
The company operates an integrated onshore processing and storage facility spanning approximately 1,480 surface acres, featuring crude oil treating capacity of approximately 180 thousand barrels per day, water treating capacity exceeding 67 thousand barrels per day, and gas processing capacity of approximately 80 million cubic feet per day. The Santa Ynez Pipeline System connects offshore production to onshore facilities and includes Pipeline Segments 324 and 325, which transport crude oil to the Pentland Station terminal in Kern County, California.
Sable restarted production on May 15, 2025, flowing oil from six wells on Platform Harmony to onshore facilities at an initial rate of approximately 6,000 barrels per day. The company is pursuing an offshore storage and treating vessel strategy to provide alternative market access via shuttle tankers, with estimated capital requirements of approximately $475 million for full implementation. Between 1981 and 2014, the Santa Ynez Unit produced over 671 million barrels of oil equivalent, with 2014 production averaging 29 thousand barrels of oil and 27 million cubic feet of natural gas per day before operations suspended following a 2015 pipeline incident. The company maintains a $625 million senior secured term loan facility with Exxon Mobil Corporation, which provided the initial asset acquisition financing.
