What Semtech Corporation does
In the company’s own words
Semtech Corporation (NASDAQ: SMTC) is a leading provider of high-performance semiconductors and Internet of Things connectivity solutions serving data center networking, infrastructure, and industrial markets worldwide. Founded in 1960 and headquartered in the United States, the company designs, develops, and markets a diverse portfolio of analog and mixed-signal semiconductor products alongside advanced wireless connectivity modules and cloud-based IoT services. The company website is www.semtech.com.
Semtech operates through three reportable segments that generated fiscal 2026 revenues of approximately $1.05 billion. The Signal Integrity segment, representing 31 percent of revenue, designs optical and copper data communications products for data centers, enterprise networks, and wireless infrastructure. The Analog Mixed Signal and Wireless segment, comprising 36 percent of revenue, produces transient voltage suppressor devices, sensing products, radio frequency solutions including LoRa technology, and power management devices. The IoT Systems and Connectivity segment accounts for 34 percent of revenue and provides wireless modules, gateways, routers, and managed connectivity services enabling device connectivity across industrial, medical, and communications applications.
The company serves three primary end markets: infrastructure representing 30 percent of sales, high-end consumer at 15 percent, and industrial applications at 55 percent. Semtech maintains a global footprint with 1,920 full-time employees as of January 2026, of which approximately 1,437 are based outside the United States. The company operates design centers worldwide and maintains operations offices in Canada, China, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Vietnam supporting manufacturing and distribution activities.
Semtech pursues a fabless-to-fab-lite manufacturing model, outsourcing most production to third-party foundries while maintaining internal process development capabilities and, following the March 2026 acquisition of HieFo Corporation, operating certain internal foundries for specialized semiconductor production. The company's competitive advantages center on rare analog and mixed-signal design expertise, a talented engineering workforce with deep domain experience, and an integrated IoT solutions portfolio combining hardware, software, and cloud connectivity services. Approximately 74 percent of fiscal 2026 sales flowed through independent distributors, with significant customer concentration in China representing 47 percent of net sales.
