Serve's core technology originated in 2017 as a specialized project within Postmates Inc., an on-demand delivery company. Following Postmates' acquisition by Uber Technologies in 2020, Uber's leadership approved the contribution of the intellectual property and related assets to Serve in February 2021. The company commenced independent operations in January 2021.
The company designs, engineers, deploys, and operates low-emission robotic systems built on a proprietary artificial intelligence-enabled mobility platform. Serve's third-generation sidewalk delivery robots can reach speeds up to 11 miles per hour, travel as far as 48 miles on a single charge, and feature an expanded 15-gallon cargo bin. As of December 31, 2025, Serve's fleet consisted of over 2,000 sidewalk delivery robots operating across multiple geographic markets. The robots maintain platform-level integrations with major food delivery platforms including Uber Eats and DoorDash.
In January 2026, subsequent to the fiscal year covered by this filing, Serve completed the acquisition of Diligent Robotics Inc., a provider of AI-powered autonomous robot assistants for the healthcare industry. This acquisition extends Serve's autonomy platform into indoor hospital environments and broadens its addressable market into healthcare and other commercial sectors.
Serve employs 370 full-time and 10 part-time employees globally, with 359 employees based in the United States and 21 employees in Canada. Approximately 38 percent of employees work in engineering or product roles, 49 percent in operations, and 13 percent in business development or administrative functions. The company generated revenue of $2.7 million during the fiscal year ended December 31, 2025. Serve holds 62 active patent matters across multiple jurisdictions, with 36 patents granted as of December 31, 2025, primarily in the United States.
