What SIGA TECHNOLOGIES INC does

In the company’s own words

SIGA Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: SIGA) is a commercial-stage pharmaceutical company focused on developing and commercializing medical countermeasures for biological threats. The company's website is www.siga.com.

The company's lead product is TPOXX (tecovirimat), an antiviral drug approved by the FDA for treating human smallpox disease caused by variola virus. SIGA offers both an oral formulation, approved in July 2018, and an intravenous formulation, approved in May 2022. Beyond FDA approval, oral TPOXX has received regulatory authorization from the European Medicines Agency, Health Canada, the UK Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency, and the Japanese Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency for treating smallpox, monkeypox, cowpox, and vaccinia complications following smallpox vaccination.

SIGA's primary customer base consists of government entities. The company maintains a substantial procurement contract with the U.S. Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), which as of December 31, 2025, contemplates approximately $630 million in total payments for manufacturing and delivering TPOXX to the U.S. Strategic National Stockpile, along with funding for advanced development, post-marketing activities, and pediatric formulation development. The company also conducts international sales through direct government contracts and previously through a distribution agreement with Meridian Medical Technologies for certain geographic regions.

SIGA does not operate manufacturing facilities. Instead, the company relies on contract manufacturing organizations including W.R. Grace and Company for active pharmaceutical ingredients, Catalent for granulation and encapsulation, and Patheon for intravenous formulation manufacturing. This outsourced model allows SIGA to focus on regulatory compliance, product development, and commercialization while maintaining supply chain flexibility.

As of February 13, 2026, SIGA employed 49 full-time employees. The company holds an extensive patent portfolio covering TPOXX, including 26 U.S. utility patents and 101 issued foreign patents across multiple jurisdictions, providing intellectual property protection extending through the 2030s. SIGA's business model centers on government procurement contracts for medical countermeasures addressing biodefense threats, positioning the company within the broader U.S. government biodefense spending landscape, which exceeded $2.5 billion annually for fiscal year 2025.
