What STEWART INFORMATION SERVICES CORP does

In the company’s own words

Stewart Information Services Corporation (NYSE: STC) is a global title insurance and real estate services company founded in 1893 and headquartered in Houston, Texas. The company operates through three reportable segments: title insurance and related services, real estate solutions, and corporate. Stewart maintains a substantial presence across the United States with regional offices in Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom, employing approximately 7,800 people globally, including roughly 6,000 in the U.S. and 1,800 internationally.

The title segment represents the company's core business, providing title examination, closing services, and title insurance policies for residential and commercial real estate transactions. Stewart's principal underwriter, Stewart Title Guaranty Company, holds investment-grade ratings from major rating agencies and ranks among the leading title insurers in the United States. The company issues policies through both direct operations and a network of approved independent agencies. Title insurance revenues are closely tied to real estate market activity, mortgage origination volumes, and interest rate environments.

The real estate solutions segment supports the mortgage and real estate industries through credit and real estate information services, property preservation and field services, valuation management, online notarization and closing solutions, and search services. This segment operates through brands including Informative Research, PropStream, BatchLeads, BatchDialer, NotaryCam, and Signature Closers.

Stewart maintains an investment portfolio of approximately 92 percent fixed income securities, with 96 percent of fixed income investments rated A or higher. The company has developed numerous proprietary trademarked products and processes including AgencySecure, AIM+, BatchDialer, NotaryCam, PropStream, StewartNow, and Virtual Underwriter that automate key facets of real estate transactions.

The company's competitive position derives from its scale, financial strength, technology infrastructure, and comprehensive service offerings across the real estate transaction lifecycle. Stewart competes with larger players including Fidelity National Financial and First American Financial Corporation, as well as various regional title insurers and alternative service providers. The company's website is stewart.com.
