What Tandem Diabetes Care, Inc. does

In the company’s own words

Tandem Diabetes Care, Inc. (NASDAQ: TNDM) is a global leader in insulin delivery and diabetes technology, specializing in the design, development, and commercialization of advanced solutions that reduce the burden of diabetes management. The company serves nearly 500,000 people living with diabetes across more than 25 countries worldwide.

Tandem's core business centers on intelligent insulin delivery systems, primarily through its portfolio of durable insulin pumps and single-use supplies. The company's flagship products include the t:slim X2 pump platform, launched in 2016, and Mobi, a smaller, wearable pump introduced in 2024. Both pumps feature Control-IQ+ advanced hybrid closed-loop technology, the company's third-generation automated insulin delivery algorithm launched in 2025. These systems integrate with continuous glucose monitoring sensors from partners including Dexcom and Abbott FreeStyle Libre, allowing users to automatically adjust insulin dosing based on real-time glucose data.

The company's addressable market encompasses approximately 5 million people with type 1 diabetes globally, with roughly 2 million in the United States, as well as approximately 2.5 million people in the United States with type 2 diabetes requiring intensive insulin therapy. Tandem estimates that approximately 40 percent of type 1 diabetes patients and 5 percent of type 2 diabetes patients in the United States currently use insulin pump therapy.

Tandem manufactures its insulin pumps at facilities in San Diego, California, where assembly, testing, and packaging occur. The company sources cartridges from third-party contract manufacturers and purchases infusion sets from Unomedical A/S. In the United States and Canada, Tandem employs direct sales and customer support teams while partnering with independent distributors for order fulfillment. Internationally, the company has historically worked with distributors but began transitioning to direct sales, training, and customer support activities in 2026, starting with the United Kingdom, Austria, and Switzerland.

Beyond its pump hardware, Tandem offers complementary software solutions including Tandem Source, a web-based data management platform, and Sugarmate, a mobile application for diabetes data visualization. The company's pipeline includes extended-wear infusion site technology, dual glucose-ketone sensor integration, and next-generation patch pump technology acquired through the Sigi Patch Pump acquisition, positioning the company for continued innovation in automated insulin delivery.
