Tompkins Financial Corporation (NYSE American: TMP) is a locally-oriented, community-based financial services holding company headquartered in Ithaca, New York. The company operates as a registered financial holding company under the Federal Reserve Board and provides a comprehensive array of financial products and services through its principal subsidiary, Tompkins Community Bank.
The company operates two primary business segments: banking and wealth management. The banking segment attracts deposits from its service areas and originates commercial loans, agricultural loans, consumer loans, real estate loans, and leases. Tompkins Community Bank operates 54 banking offices across four geographic markets: Central New York with 12 branches, Western New York with 14 branches, Hudson Valley New York with 12 branches, and Pennsylvania with 16 branches. The bank serves communities across New York and Pennsylvania, including major metropolitan areas such as Rochester, Buffalo, and the Hudson Valley region north of Manhattan, as well as rural and mid-sized communities.
The wealth management segment, operating under the Tompkins Financial Advisors brand, provides investment management, trust and estate services, financial planning, and tax planning services. As of December 31, 2025, Tompkins Community Bank held consolidated total assets of $8.7 billion, consolidated total loans of $6.4 billion, and consolidated total deposits of $7.1 billion.
The company has a notable history dating to 1836 when Tompkins Trust Company began operations in Ithaca. In January 2021, Tompkins consolidated its four banking subsidiaries into a single entity, Tompkins Community Bank. In October 2025, the company divested its insurance subsidiary, Tompkins Insurance Agencies, Inc., to Arthur J. Gallagher Risk Management Services, LLC, allowing the company to focus on its core banking and wealth management operations.
The company employs 870 people, including 813 full-time employees and 57 part-time and temporary employees. Tompkins' strategy emphasizes responsible and sustainable growth through organic expansion and selective acquisitions of complementary financial institutions or businesses, combined with digital service delivery and personalized community banking relationships.
