What TransMedics Group, Inc. does
In the company’s own words
TransMedics Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: TMDX) operates as a medical technology company focused on transforming organ transplant therapy through innovative preservation and procurement solutions. The company's website is www.transmedics.com.
The company's core business centers on the Organ Care System (OCS), a portable, multi-organ warm perfusion platform that represents the only FDA-approved device of its kind on the market. The OCS addresses fundamental limitations of traditional cold storage organ preservation by maintaining donor organs in a living, functioning state outside the human body through warm, oxygenated, nutrient-enriched blood perfusion. This enables organ optimization, viability assessment, and significantly reduces ischemic injury compared to conventional methods. TransMedics has developed three OCS products for heart, lung, and liver transplantation, all approved for organs from both brain-dead and circulatory-dead donors. The company is also developing OCS Kidney leveraging next-generation Gen-3 technology.
Complementing its device offerings, TransMedics operates the National OCS Program (NOP), a comprehensive turnkey solution providing outsourced organ procurement, OCS perfusion management, and transplant logistics services to transplant centers nationwide. The NOP includes dedicated aviation transportation through a fleet of 22 owned fixed-wing aircraft acquired following the August 2023 acquisition of Summit Aviation, enabling end-to-end organ delivery services.
As of December 31, 2025, the company employed 898 full-time staff members worldwide, with primary operations in Andover, Massachusetts, supplemented by facilities in Somerville, Massachusetts, Dallas, Texas, and distributed teams supporting NOP operations across the United States. The company maintains additional distribution, commercial, and research and development operations in Europe, including facilities in Mirandola, Italy.
TransMedics generated $605.5 million in total revenue during 2025, reflecting strong year-over-year growth. The business model emphasizes recurring revenue derived primarily from sales of single-use, organ-specific disposable sets required for each OCS transplant procedure and services provided through the NOP. The company's competitive advantages include its multi-organ platform capability, established clinical relationships with leading transplant centers, substantial clinical evidence from large-scale trials, and integrated logistics infrastructure supporting efficient organ procurement and delivery.
