The company's core business centers on two-sided marketplaces that enable travelers to search, discover, book, and review travel-related offerings. Tripadvisor's mission is to serve as the world's most trusted source for travel and experiences through its portfolio of recognized brands including Tripadvisor, Viator, and TheFork. The company hosts more than one billion reviews and opinions covering over nine million destinations, points of interest, experiences, accommodations, restaurants, airlines, and cruises, attracting hundreds of millions of visitors annually across more than 40 countries and over 20 languages.
Tripadvisor operates through three reportable segments. The Experiences segment includes both Viator and Tripadvisor points-of-sale, offering access to more than 425,000 bookable experiences from 70,000 operators globally. The Hotels and Other segment provides hotel metasearch and related advertising offerings through the Tripadvisor platform, including the Cruise Critic subsidiary. The TheFork segment operates an online dining marketplace across 11 European countries, serving more than 50,000 restaurants. During 2025, marketplace offerings including Experiences and TheFork accounted for approximately 60 percent of consolidated revenue.
The company employs approximately 2,590 people, with roughly 68 percent based in Europe, 28 percent in the United States, and 4 percent in the rest of the world. Tripadvisor was founded in February 2000 and became an independent publicly-traded company in December 2011 following a spin-off from Expedia. In April 2025, Tripadvisor completed the acquisition of Liberty TripAdvisor Holdings, Inc., simplifying its capital structure to a single class of common stock and eliminating its controlled company status. The company also completed a redomestication from Delaware to Nevada in April 2025.
