What TXNM ENERGY INC does
In the company’s own words
TXNM Energy, Inc. (NYSE: TXNM) operates as a holding company for two regulated electric utilities serving approximately 842,000 residential, commercial, and industrial customers across New Mexico and Texas. The company website is www.txnmenergy.com.
TXNM's business is organized into two primary reportable segments: Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM) and Texas-New Mexico Power Company (TNMP), along with a Corporate and Other segment. PNM provides electric generation, transmission, and distribution services across north-central and southern New Mexico, including the cities of Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, and Santa Fe, as well as service to nine sovereign nations. TNMP operates transmission and distribution services in three non-contiguous areas of Texas, including regions near Dallas-Fort Worth, the Texas Gulf Coast between Houston and Galveston, and far west Texas between Midland and El Paso.
As of December 31, 2025, TXNM employed 1,755 total employees, with 870 at PNM and 445 at TNMP, plus 440 corporate employees. PNM operates 3,450 miles of electric transmission lines interconnecting with utilities across New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Texas, and Utah. TNMP owns 1,049 miles of electric transmission lines within the ERCOT region.
PNM's generation capacity totals 4,733 megawatts, with renewable and energy storage resources representing 68.6 percent of capacity. The utility operates diverse generation sources including solar facilities, wind farms, geothermal resources, energy storage systems, natural gas plants, nuclear interests at Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, and coal interests at Four Corners Power Plant. TNMP provides transmission and distribution services exclusively and does not generate power.
Both utilities operate under traditional cost-of-service regulation. PNM is regulated by the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for wholesale transmission. TNMP operates under the jurisdiction of the Public Utility Commission of Texas and certain municipalities. The company is pursuing a proposed merger with Blackstone Infrastructure Partners, which received shareholder approval in August 2025 and regulatory approvals from the FCC and FERC in early 2026, with additional regulatory approvals pending.
