Universal Display generates revenue primarily through the sale of proprietary OLED materials and the licensing of OLED technologies to display and lighting product manufacturers. The company's core business centers on its UniversalPHOLED phosphorescent OLED technologies, which enable more energy-efficient light emission compared to fluorescent alternatives. The company owns, exclusively licenses, or has the sole right to sublicense more than 7,000 patents issued and pending worldwide, representing a substantial intellectual property portfolio in PHOLED emitter materials, complementary PHOLED materials, OLED device designs, and manufacturing technologies.
The company supplies proprietary OLED materials to leading display manufacturers including Samsung Display, LG Display, BOE Technology Group, Tianma Micro-electronics, Visionox Technology, and Wuhan China Star Optoelectronics.
