What URBAN ONE, INC. does
In the company’s own words
Urban One, Inc. (Nasdaq: UONE, UONEK) operates as an urban-oriented, multi-media company primarily targeting African-American and urban consumers. The company's website is www.urbanone.com.
The company's core business is radio broadcasting, representing the largest radio broadcasting operation in the United States that primarily targets African-American and urban listeners. As of December 31, 2025, Urban One owned and operated 76 independently formatted, revenue-producing broadcast stations across 13 major African-American markets, including Atlanta, Baltimore, Charlotte, Dallas, Houston, Indianapolis, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Columbus, Raleigh-Durham, Richmond, and Cincinnati. The radio broadcasting segment generated approximately 35.0% of net revenue from advertising sales, with approximately 59.4% from local advertising and 30.7% from national advertisers.
Beyond radio, Urban One operates four reportable business segments. The Reach Media segment operates syndicated radio programming including the Rickey Smiley Morning Show, Get Up! Mornings with Erica Campbell Show, and the DL Hughley Show, distributed across 45 Urban One stations and 211 non-Urban One stations nationwide. The company maintains approximately 94.6% ownership in Reach Media. The Cable Television segment includes TV One and CLEO TV, two cable networks targeting African-American and urban viewers, generating revenue through advertising and affiliate fees. The Digital segment operates Interactive One, a wholly owned platform serving African-American audiences through websites including iONE Digital, Cassius, Bossip, HipHopWired, and MadameNoire.
Urban One's business strategy emphasizes clustering radio stations within markets to achieve greater demographic penetration while building complementary media brands targeting different segments of African-American and urban consumers. This multi-platform approach enables the company to offer advertisers integrated delivery mechanisms across radio, cable television, digital, and syndicated programming. The company faces competition from traditional media, digital platforms, and streaming services, competing for both audience attention and advertising revenue across all its business segments.
