What Vir Biotechnology, Inc. does

In the company’s own words

Vir Biotechnology, Inc. (NASDAQ: VIR) is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on discovering and developing medicines for serious infectious diseases and cancer by leveraging deep immunological expertise and proprietary technology platforms. The company's mission centers on powering the immune system to help patients overcome sophisticated evasion mechanisms employed by viruses and cancer cells.

Vir's clinical development pipeline is organized around two primary therapeutic areas. In infectious diseases, the company is advancing tobevibart, an engineered neutralizing monoclonal antibody targeting hepatitis B surface antigen, in combination with elebsiran, a small interfering RNA that reduces hepatitis B surface antigen expression. This combination is being evaluated in the registrational ECLIPSE clinical program for chronic hepatitis delta, a severe progressive liver disease with limited treatment options globally. The company is also developing HIV broadly neutralizing antibodies as potential long-acting treatments or functional cures in collaboration with the Gates Foundation, and has made available for external partnerships next-generation influenza, coronavirus, and antibody drug conjugate candidates.

In oncology, Vir is advancing three Phase 1 clinical-stage dual-masked T-cell engagers: VIR-5500 targeting PSMA in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer, VIR-5818 targeting HER2 in solid tumors, and VIR-5525 targeting EGFR in various solid tumors. The company is also developing multiple undisclosed masked T-cell engagers targeting clinically validated oncology targets.

Vir's competitive advantages rest on two core proprietary technology platforms. The dAIsY platform utilizes artificial intelligence and machine learning for antibody optimization, while the PRO-XTEN masking platform, exclusively licensed from Sanofi for oncology and infectious diseases, enables development of potentially best-in-class T-cell engagers with improved safety and efficacy profiles. The company maintains strategic partnerships including recent collaborations with Astellas for VIR-5500 development and commercialization, Norgine for tobevibart and elebsiran commercialization in Europe, Australia and New Zealand, and Brii Biosciences for development rights in Greater China.
