(NASDAQ: WEC) operates as a diversified holding company providing regulated natural gas and electricity services, renewable energy investments, and nonregulated renewable energy operations across multiple states. The company maintains its principal executive offices in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and can be found at www.wecenergygroup.com.
The company's core business centers on utility energy operations serving customers in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Michigan through wholly owned subsidiaries including Wisconsin Electric Power Company, Wisconsin Public Service Corporation, Wisconsin Gas LLC, and Upper Michigan Energy Resources Corporation for electric and natural gas distribution. The Illinois segment operates through Peoples Gas Light and Coke Company and North Shore Gas Company, providing natural gas utility services to customers in Chicago and northern suburbs. The company operates six reportable segments encompassing utility electric operations, utility natural gas operations, electric transmission, and non-utility renewable energy facilities. The utility operations generate the majority of revenues through regulated electric and natural gas distribution to residential, commercial, and industrial customers. As of year-end 2025, the company served approximately 1.7 million electric customers and 2.6 million natural gas customers across its service territories.
WEC Energy Group's generation portfolio includes 8,375 megawatts of owned capacity comprising natural gas-fired plants, coal-fired plants, renewable generation including wind and solar facilities, and battery energy storage systems. The company has established a long-term environmental goal to achieve net carbon neutral electric generation by 2050, with intermediate targets including using coal only as backup fuel by 2030 and achieving a 53 percent reduction in carbon emissions from 2005 baseline levels as of year-end 2025.
The company's business model relies on regulated utility operations providing stable, predictable cash flows supplemented by investments in renewable energy infrastructure. WEC Energy Group was incorporated in Wisconsin in 1981 and acquired Integrys in 2015, significantly expanding its geographic footprint and operational scale.
