Winmark Corporation (NASDAQ: WINA) operates as a nationally recognized franchisor focused on sustainability and small business formation through its portfolio of value-oriented resale retail brands. The company maintains its website at www.winmarkcorporation.com and was incorporated in Minnesota in 1988.
The company franchises five distinct retail concepts that buy, sell, and trade gently used merchandise alongside limited new inventory. Plato's Closet targets teenagers and young adults with used clothing and accessories. Once Upon A Child serves parents of children ages infant to twelve with used and new children's clothing, toys, furniture, and equipment. Play It Again Sports offers used and new sporting goods and equipment for various athletic activities. Style Encore focuses on used women's apparel, shoes, and accessories. Music Go Round specializes in used and new musical instruments, speakers, amplifiers, and related accessories. As of December 27, 2025, the company operated 1,378 franchised stores across the United States and Canada, with over 2,800 available territories for expansion.
The franchising segment represents the company's primary business, generating substantially all revenue through royalties and franchise fees from franchisees. In fiscal 2025, franchising contributed $83.4 million in revenue. The company also maintains a non-reportable equipment leasing segment that completed its orderly run-off during 2025, with no remaining leasing customers or assets as of year-end.
Winmark employs 87 people at its Minneapolis headquarters and operates a 41,016 square-foot leased facility. The company estimates that since 2010, stores across its five brands have extended the lives of over 2.1 billion items, with approximately 195 million items extended in 2025 alone. The franchising model allows the company to generate consistent, recurring revenue through royalties while maintaining a capital-light operational structure. Franchisees operate independently under brand standards and support systems provided by Winmark, including training, operations support, purchasing assistance, point-of-sale technology, and marketing guidance. The company's brands collectively generated system-wide sales of $1.682 billion in 2025.
