In the company’s own words
XPEL, Inc. (NASDAQ: XPEL) operates as a leading supplier of protective films, coatings, and related services primarily serving the automotive aftermarket, new car dealerships, and original equipment manufacturers. The company's website is www.xpel.com.
The company began as a software business designing vehicle patterns for cut-to-fit protective film and expanded into product manufacturing in 2007. XPEL's core offerings include surface and paint protection films, automotive window tint films, windshield protection film, architectural window films for commercial and residential applications, and ceramic coatings. Paint protection film and surface protection film represent approximately 52.4 percent of consolidated revenue, while automotive window film accounts for 16.6 percent. Installation services contribute 18.3 percent of revenue. The company also operates a proprietary software platform called the Design Access Platform, a SaaS offering providing access to over 90,000 vehicle pattern applications used by installers and customers.
XPEL distributes products through multiple channels including independent aftermarket installers, new car dealerships, third-party distributors, company-owned installation centers, OEMs, and online sales. Approximately 51 percent of revenue flows through independent installers, while distributors account for roughly 16 percent. The company operates 34 company-owned installation centers across the United States, Canada, India, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, Mexico, Japan, Thailand, and China.
As of December 31, 2025, XPEL employed approximately 1,337 people globally, with roughly 729 in the United States and 608 internationally. The company competes primarily against Eastman Chemical Company's LLumar and Suntek brands, along with numerous suppliers in Korea and China. XPEL has pursued an asset-light manufacturing model historically, relying on third-party contract manufacturers and suppliers, though the company is now investing in manufacturing and supply chain assets to enhance cost control and product quality. The company has completed five acquisitions during 2025 to expand its global reach and distribution capabilities.
