Fund profile
As filed in the prospectus · 2025 Q4
Depending on the proximity to its target date, the fund will seek to achieve the following objectives to varying degrees: growth, income and preservation of capital. The target date is meant to roughly correspond to the year in which the fund beneficiary will start to withdraw funds to meet higher education expenses. The fund will increasingly emphasize income and preservation of capital by investing a greater portion of its assets in fixed income, equity-income and balanced funds as it approaches and passes its target date. In this way, the fund seeks to achieve an appropriate balance of total return and stability during different time periods.
The fund invests in a mix of American Funds across growth, growth-and-income, equity-income, balanced, and fixed income categories, adjusting the allocation over time as it approaches its target date for college expenses. The asset mix becomes progressively more conservative, shifting toward fixed income and equity-income funds to emphasize income and capital preservation as the target date nears. The investment adviser periodically rebalances the underlying fund allocations and may change which funds are held. Because the fund's returns depend on the performance and allocation decisions of the underlying funds it holds, results will reflect both the adviser's selection of those funds and any divergence between actual and target allocations within the stated 10% tolerance band.
