The investment objective of BlackRock LifePath Index 2045 Fund (LifePath Index 2045 Fund or the Fund), a series of BlackRock Funds III (the Trust), is to seek to provide for retirement outcomes based on quantitatively measured risk. In pursuit of this objective, LifePath Index 2045 Fund will be broadly diversified across global asset classes, with asset allocations becoming more conservative over time.
The fund invests in a portfolio of equity index funds, bond index funds, and money market funds, reallocating among them according to a predetermined glide path that shifts the asset mix progressively toward fixed income as the target retirement date of 2045 approaches. The fund seeks to track the performance of its custom benchmark index, with at least 80% of assets in securities or instruments with economic characteristics matching that benchmark. Asset allocation begins at 99% equities and 1% fixed income for investors far from retirement, gradually becoming more conservative to reach 40% equities and 60% fixed income at the target date. Because the fund invests through other funds rather than holding securities directly, its performance will depend on the performance and fees of those underlying funds.
