The business

Abbott Laboratories (NYSE: ABT) is a diversified global healthcare company engaged in the discovery, development, manufacture, and sale of a broad range of healthcare products. The company operates through four reportable segments: Established Pharmaceutical Products, Diagnostic Products, Nutritional Products, and Medical Devices. Abbott maintains operations in more than 160 countries and employs approximately 115,000 people as of December 31, 2025, with 69 percent of its workforce located outside the United States. The company's website is www.abbottinvestor.com.

The Established Pharmaceutical Products segment comprises branded generic pharmaceuticals marketed primarily in emerging markets, including gastroenterology products such as Creon and Duphalac, women's health offerings like Duphaston and Femoston, cardiovascular treatments including Synthroid and TriCor, and respiratory drugs and vaccines. The Diagnostic Products segment offers laboratory and transfusion medicine systems, molecular diagnostics instruments, point-of-care testing systems, rapid diagnostics platforms including BinaxNOW and Panbio for infectious disease testing, and informatics solutions. The Nutritional Products segment includes infant formulas under the Similac brand, adult nutritional products such as Ensure and Glucerna, and enteral feeding products for healthcare institutions. The Medical Devices segment provides rhythm management devices, electrophysiology products, heart failure solutions including the HeartMate left ventricular assist device family, vascular products, structural heart devices such as MitraClip, continuous glucose monitoring systems under the FreeStyle Libre and Lingo brands, and neuromodulation devices for chronic pain and movement disorders.

Abbott's business model emphasizes innovation, with products marketed directly to healthcare providers, hospitals, wholesalers, retailers, and consumers depending on the segment and geography. The company maintains substantial intellectual property protections through patents and trademarks across its product portfolio. In November 2025, Abbott entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Exact Sciences Corporation to expand into the cancer diagnostics market. Abbott's diversified portfolio, global distribution network, and commitment to research and development position the company as a significant player in the healthcare industry.

Fund ownership counts N-PORT filers only, so it is a floor rather than a census — pensions, insurers and direct holders are not visible here, and the remainder is not “held by individuals”.

Fund ownership is a subset of institutional 13F ownership — the two describe overlapping populations and must not be added together.
