The business

Martin Marietta Materials, Inc. (NYSE: MLM) operates as a leading natural resource-based building materials company serving the construction industry across North America. The company's website is www.martinmarietta.com.

The company operates through three reportable segments: the East Group and West Group, which collectively comprise the Building Materials business, and the Specialties business. In 2025, aggregates generated 88 percent of total reportable segment gross profit, establishing aggregates as the company's core product. The Building Materials business supplies crushed stone, sand, and gravel through approximately 400 quarries, mines, and distribution yards located in 28 states, Canada, and The Bahamas. The company also provides cement, ready mixed concrete, asphalt, and paving services in targeted markets. The Specialties business manufactures high-purity natural and synthetic magnesia-based products, including magnesium sulfate, magnesium oxide, and magnesium hydroxide, along with dolomitic lime, serving environmental, industrial, agricultural, construction, consumer, and specialty applications.

Martin Marietta's products are primarily used in infrastructure, nonresidential, and residential construction projects. In 2025, 37 percent of aggregates shipments were sold for highway and public infrastructure projects, with the remainder directed toward private-sector construction. The ten largest revenue-generating states—Texas, North Carolina, Colorado, California, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Arizona, Iowa, and Minnesota—accounted for 76 percent of Building Materials revenues from continuing operations.

The company maintains approximately 85 years of aggregates reserves based on 2025 production levels and operates the largest network of underground aggregates mines in the United States with 13 active underground mines. The company owns approximately 180,000 acres of land supporting its operations.

Founded in 1993 as successor to Lockheed Martin's materials group, Martin Marietta has completed over 100 acquisitions since its 1994 initial public offering. Recent strategic transactions include the 2024 acquisition of Albert Frei & Sons in Colorado, the 2024 sale of its South Texas cement business, and the 2024 acquisition of Blue Water Industries' Southeast aggregates operations. In 2025, the company acquired Premier Magnesia, expanding its magnesia-based product portfolio and domestic mineral reserves.

Fund ownership counts N-PORT filers only, so it is a floor rather than a census — pensions, insurers and direct holders are not visible here, and the remainder is not “held by individuals”.

Fund ownership is a subset of institutional 13F ownership — the two describe overlapping populations and must not be added together.
