Visa operates through a four-party model connecting consumers, issuing financial institutions, acquiring institutions and sellers through its proprietary VisaNet transaction processing network. During fiscal 2025, Visa processed 258 billion transactions, representing an average of 901 million transactions daily, with total payments and cash volume reaching $17 trillion. The company maintains nearly 5 billion payment credentials available at more than 175 million merchant locations worldwide and serves approximately 14,500 financial institution clients.

The company's revenue streams include service revenue from client usage of payment services, data processing revenue from authorization and settlement activities, international transaction revenue from cross-border processing, and other revenue from value-added services and licensing. Visa also pays client incentives to financial institutions and partners to drive volume growth and innovation.

Visa's business strategy centers on three primary growth pillars: consumer payments, commercial and money movement solutions, and value-added services. Consumer payments encompasses credit, debit and prepaid products alongside emerging capabilities like contactless Tap to Everything technology and token-based digital wallets. Commercial and money movement solutions addresses business-to-business payments through Visa Commercial Solutions and domestic and cross-border money movement through Visa Direct, which processed more than 12.5 billion transactions in fiscal 2025. Value-added services span issuing solutions, acceptance solutions, risk and security solutions, and advisory services delivered through platforms including Visa DPS, Pismo, Cybersource and Tink.

As of September 30, 2025, Visa employed approximately 34,100 people across 86 countries and territories, with more than 60 percent located outside the United States. The company has made significant acquisitions including Tink, Currencycloud, YellowPepper, Earthport and Featurespace, which have strengthened its capabilities in open banking, money movement and fraud prevention. Visa continues investing in emerging technologies including artificial intelligence, stablecoins and agentic commerce to extend its network capabilities and address evolving payment needs globally.
