Linde's core business centers on the production and distribution of atmospheric gases—oxygen, nitrogen, argon, and rare gases—as well as process gases including hydrogen, helium, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, electronic gases, specialty gases, and acetylene. The company designs and constructs equipment and plants for gas production and processing, offering customers comprehensive gas production and processing services such as olefin plants, natural gas plants, air separation plants, and hydrogen and synthesis gas plants.
The company operates through three primary reportable segments: Americas, EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa), and APAC (Asia-Pacific), with approximately 64 percent of 2025 sales generated outside the United States. The Americas segment operates roughly 350 production facilities, primarily cryogenic air separation plants, hydrogen plants, and carbon dioxide plants, along with five major pipeline complexes in North America. The EMEA segment maintains approximately 275 cryogenic air separation and carbon dioxide plants across Germany, the United Kingdom, Eastern Europe, France, Sweden, and South Africa. The APAC segment operates approximately 230 cryogenic air separation and carbon dioxide plants in China, Australia, India, South Korea, and Thailand.
Linde distributes products through three primary methods: on-site or tonnage supply for large-volume customers with constant demand; merchant or bulk liquid delivery via tanker trucks; and packaged gases in cylinders for smaller-volume customers. The company's Engineering business designs and constructs turnkey process plants globally, with manufacturing facilities in Germany, France, the United States, and China.
With 65,177 employees worldwide as of December 31, 2025, Linde generated sales of $33.986 billion in 2025. The company maintains competitive advantages through its extensive pipeline networks, proprietary production technologies, global distribution infrastructure, and long-term customer contracts with price escalation provisions.
