PepsiCo's distribution network combines direct-store-delivery systems, customer warehouse networks, third-party distributors, and growing e-commerce capabilities. The company manufactures and distributes products through owned facilities, authorized bottlers, contract manufacturers, and other third parties. In 2025, sales to Walmart Inc. and its affiliates represented approximately 14 percent of consolidated net revenue across all segments.

The company's competitive advantages stem from its portfolio of globally recognized trademarks, innovation capabilities, and flexible distribution infrastructure. PepsiCo competes primarily on brand recognition, product quality, taste, price, innovation, distribution efficiency, and marketing effectiveness. The Coca-Cola Company represents the primary beverage competitor in many markets, while the convenient food category includes competition from regional, local, and private-label manufacturers.

PepsiCo's research and development efforts focus on creating consumer-preferred products, improving manufacturing processes, developing sustainable packaging solutions, and advancing digital capabilities including artificial intelligence and data analytics. The company maintains research centers globally across locations including Brazil, China, India, Ireland, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
