What Aeluma, Inc. does
In the company’s own words
Aeluma, Inc. (Nasdaq: ALUM) develops high-performance photonic and electronic technologies for communications and sensing applications across telecom, artificial intelligence datacom, mobile, defense and aerospace, robotics, automotive, augmented reality/virtual reality, and quantum sectors. The company's proprietary platform combines compound semiconductor materials with large-diameter substrates to leverage existing microelectronics manufacturing infrastructure. The company's technology and product development activities focus on photodetectors, photodetector arrays, lasers, optical amplifiers, and related technologies capable of detecting near-infrared and shortwave infrared light, with quantum dot laser technology for optical communications and sensing applications.
Aeluma operates a capital-efficient manufacturing model combining internal materials production, process development, prototyping, and test capabilities with external fabrication and packaging partners. The company maintains approximately 9,000 square feet of research and development and manufacturing facilities in Goleta, California, including cleanroom and epitaxy wafer production equipment, along with approximately 2,400 square feet of additional office space. During fiscal year 2026, the company expanded internal test and prototyping capabilities and announced relationships with Tower Semiconductor and Sumitomo Chemical Advanced Technologies for wafer production and fabrication.
The company is transitioning from a predominantly research and development-stage business toward commercialization. Revenue currently consists primarily of government development contracts with emerging commercial development and product revenue. Aeluma has delivered wafers, chips, and engineering samples, performed non-recurring engineering projects, and begun accepting initial commercial sales orders, though these orders remain relatively small as commercial customers typically require extensive evaluation and qualification before committing to production volumes.
As of June 30, 2026, Aeluma employed 27 full-time employees, all based in the United States. The company's intellectual property portfolio includes approximately 36 issued and pending patents covering heterogeneous integration, scalable manufacturing processes, photodetectors, imaging arrays, photonic components, three-dimensional sensing, quantum dot lasers, and system integration. The company's website is www.aeluma.com.
