Akebia operates with two commercial revenue-generating products and a robust pipeline of mid-stage and early-stage development candidates. Vafseo (vadadustat), approved by the FDA in March 2024, is an orally administered hypoxia inducible factor prolyl hydroxylase inhibitor for treating anemia due to chronic kidney disease in adult dialysis patients. Vafseo entered the U.S. market in January 2025 and represents the only oral HIF-based treatment available domestically for this indication. Auryxia (ferric citrate), launched in December 2014, is an oral medicine approved for two indications: controlling serum phosphorus levels in dialysis-dependent chronic kidney disease patients and treating iron deficiency anemia in non-dialysis-dependent chronic kidney disease patients. Auryxia reached loss of exclusivity in March 2025.
