What American Well Corp does

In the company’s own words

Amwell, Inc. (NYSE: AMWL) operates as a leading enterprise platform and software company digitally enabling hybrid care delivery across the United States and internationally. Founded in 2006, the company pioneered virtual healthcare and has evolved to provide comprehensive technology solutions that blend in-person, virtual, and automated care modalities. The company's website is www.amwell.com.

The core business centers on the Amwell Platform, a cloud-based software-as-a-service solution that empowers health providers, payers, and healthcare innovators to develop and distribute digital care programs under their own brands. The platform enables health systems to deploy provider-to-provider virtual care, virtual nursing, and patient-to-provider services across urgent care, primary care, behavioral health, chronic disease management, and specialty follow-up use cases. For health plans and employers, the platform facilitates member-centric hybrid care experiences with virtual primary care navigation hubs, urgent care solutions, and condition-specific automated programs.

As of December 31, 2025, Amwell powers digital care programs for approximately 50 health plans representing more than 90 million covered lives and approximately 80 of the nation's largest health systems. The company has facilitated more than 37.6 million virtual care visits since inception, including 4.5 million during 2025.

Beyond the core platform, Amwell offers Carepoint devices that transform existing equipment into digital access points and provide virtual nursing and patient monitoring capabilities. The company supplements client capabilities through Amwell Medical Group, a nationwide network of multi-disciplinary providers offering 24/7/365 coverage across 50 states with approximately 1,000 active behavioral health providers. Additional services include implementation, workflow design, systems integration, patient and provider engagement support, and professional services.

The company's competitive strengths include its ability to support the full care continuum with synchronous, asynchronous, and automated capabilities; enable clients' own provider networks; offer flexible and scalable solutions; support third-party and first-party applications; provide client-branded embedded experiences; and maintain a connected ecosystem of health systems, health plans, and innovators. The Amwell Platform is built on FHIR standards for interoperability and integrates with major EHR systems including Epic and Oracle Health.
