What ANAVEX LIFE SCIENCES CORP. does

In the company’s own words

Anavex Life Sciences Corp. (NASDAQ: AVXL) is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing differentiated therapeutics for central nervous system diseases with high unmet medical need. The company applies precision medicine approaches and genomic analysis to identify biomarkers that inform its clinical development programs. More information about the company is available at www.anavex.com.

The company's primary development focus centers on ANAVEX®2-73 (blarcamesine), a sigma-1 receptor agonist being evaluated across multiple indications including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease dementia, and Rett syndrome. ANAVEX®2-73 is formulated as an oral once-daily capsule for neurodegenerative diseases and as an oral liquid once-daily formulation for rare diseases. The company's secondary clinical program, ANAVEX®3-71, represents a novel mechanism combining sigma-1 receptor activation with M1 muscarinic allosteric modulation and is being developed for frontotemporal dementia, schizophrenia, and Alzheimer's disease. The company also maintains preclinical and early-stage programs including ANAVEX®1-41, ANAVEX®1066 for neuropathic and visceral pain, and ANAVEX®1037 for oncology applications.

Anavex's therapeutic approach centers on restoring cellular homeostasis through sigma-1 receptor activation, targeting diseases characterized by chronic cellular stress and protein aggregation. The company has received multiple regulatory designations including Orphan Drug Designation and Fast Track status for Rett syndrome, and Orphan Drug Designation for ANAVEX®3-71 in frontotemporal dementia. In November 2024, Anavex submitted a Marketing Authorization Application to the European Medicines Agency for blarcamesine in Alzheimer's disease treatment.

The company's pipeline addresses significant market opportunities across neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental disorders, including Alzheimer's disease affecting millions of Americans, Parkinson's disease affecting over ten million people worldwide, and rare genetic conditions like Rett syndrome and Fragile X syndrome. Anavex employs a precision medicine strategy incorporating genomic biomarkers to identify patient populations most likely to respond to treatment, differentiating its approach within the competitive CNS therapeutics landscape.
