What Anika Therapeutics, Inc. does

In the company’s own words

Anika Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ: ANIK) is a global leader in osteoarthritis pain management and regenerative orthopedic solutions, leveraging proprietary hyaluronic acid technology to develop differentiated medical products. Founded in 1992, the company focuses on early intervention orthopedics with a mission to restore active living and redefine what is possible with hyaluronic acid-based innovations.

The company operates through two primary product portfolios. Its Osteoarthritis Pain Management segment includes Monovisc and Orthovisc, single- and multi-injection hyaluronic acid viscosupplement products indicated for knee pain relief, which have maintained market leadership positions since 2018. Cingal, a next-generation single-injection product combining cross-linked hyaluronic acid with a fast-acting steroid, is CE marked and sold in over 50 countries outside the United States, with the company actively pursuing FDA approval for the U.S. market. The Regenerative Solutions portfolio comprises Integrity, an FDA-cleared hyaluronic acid-based scaffold for rotator cuff and tendon repairs that launched in 2023 and has demonstrated strong adoption; Hyalofast, a resorbable scaffold for cartilage regeneration available internationally and under FDA review in the United States; and Tactoset, an injectable bone substitute for fracture repair and hardware fixation.

In the United States, Anika maintains a strategic partnership with Johnson & Johnson MedTech, which exclusively markets Monovisc and Orthovisc. The company employs a hybrid commercial model for its Regenerative Solutions portfolio, combining its direct sales team with a network of independent third-party distributors. Internationally, Anika distributes products through a worldwide network of commercial partners. The company also markets legacy non-orthopedic hyaluronic acid products including Hyvisc for equine joint dysfunction, Hyalobarrier for post-surgical adhesion prevention, and ophthalmic products Anikavisc and Nuvisc.

Anika manufactures all hyaluronic acid-based products at its facility in Bedford, Massachusetts, where it has developed significant expertise in viscous liquid processing and scaffold creation. In 2024 and 2025, the company executed a strategic refocus, divesting Arthrosurface Incorporated and Parcus Medical to concentrate on its core hyaluronic acid technology platforms.
