The company's primary development focus centers on two product candidates designed to address the significant unmet medical need in hepatitis B treatment. Imdusiran, also known as AB-729, is a proprietary GalNAc-conjugated, subcutaneously-delivered RNA interference therapeutic that suppresses hepatitis B virus antigens, including hepatitis B surface antigen. Over 200 patients with chronic hepatitis B have been dosed with imdusiran across Phase 1 and Phase 2a clinical trials, with clinical data demonstrating meaningful reductions in viral markers and functional cure in some patients. AB-101 is a proprietary oral PD-L1 inhibitor designed to activate patients' hepatitis B-specific immune response and is currently in Phase 1a/1b clinical trials.
Arbutus also maintains significant intellectual property assets related to lipid nanoparticle technology, which the company developed and licensed to third parties.
