What Archer Aviation Inc. does
In the company’s own words
Archer Aviation Inc. (NYSE: ACHR) is an early-stage aerospace company developing electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft and related technologies for commercial and defense applications. The company's website is located at www.archer.com.
The company's primary product is Midnight, a purpose-built eVTOL aircraft designed to carry four passengers plus a pilot for urban air taxi operations. Midnight features a proprietary 12-tilt-6 distributed electric propulsion platform optimized for high-frequency, short-distance trips of approximately 20 miles with minimal charging time between flights. The aircraft prioritizes safety and delivers significantly reduced noise compared to traditional helicopters. Archer is also developing a dual-use hybrid-electric autonomous VTOL aircraft platform for both defense and commercial cargo applications through a strategic partnership with Anduril Industries.
Archer operates through two planned business segments: Commercial, consisting of aircraft sales, related technologies and services, and direct-to-consumer air taxi services in select metropolitan areas; and Defense, focused on next-generation aircraft and technologies for defense applications, including a partnership with the U.S. Air Force through the AFWERX program.
The company is pursuing commercialization across multiple markets. In the United States, Archer has applied to participate in the eVTOL Integration Pilot Program and recently acquired control of Hawthorne Municipal Airport near Los Angeles to serve as an operational hub for its Los Angeles network. Internationally, the company's Launch Edition program is offering aircraft and services to support commercialization in select markets, with the United Arab Emirates leading the way through a Restricted Type Certification pathway with the General Civil Aviation Authority.
As of December 31, 2025, Archer employed 1,660 people, including 1,160 full-time employees and 500 contingent workers. The company operates manufacturing and test facilities in Silicon Valley and Georgia, utilizing a golden manufacturing line approach for early production builds. Archer has incurred cumulative net losses of approximately 2.3 billion dollars since inception and expects to continue incurring significant losses as it develops aircraft, pursues certifications, and builds out commercial operations.
