What Arq, Inc. does

In the company’s own words

Arq, Inc. (Nasdaq: ARQ) operates as an environmental technology company specializing in advanced purification technologies through the manufacture and sale of activated carbon and related chemical solutions. The company's website is www.arq.com.

The company serves multiple markets including coal-fired power generation, industrial applications, water treatment, and soil remediation. Arq's primary products consist of powdered activated carbon (PAC), granular activated carbon (GAC), and colloidal carbon products (CCP) engineered to remove contaminants such as mercury, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), and other pollutants from air, water, and soil streams. The company also produces specialized products like FluxSorb RC for in situ groundwater and soil treatment applications.

Arq maintains a vertically integrated supply chain through its ownership of the Five Forks Mine, a lignite coal mine in Louisiana that supplies primary raw materials for manufacturing. The company also operates the Red River Plant in Louisiana and the Corbin Facility in Kentucky, which processes recovered bituminous coal fines into Corbin Wetcake for high-value applications. As of December 31, 2025, the company employed 202 full-time employees across its facilities.

The company's customer base includes coal-fired power plants, municipal water treatment facilities, industrial wastewater treatment plants, and environmental remediation contractors. Revenue from the top three customers represented approximately 42 percent of total revenue for fiscal year 2025.

Arq's history includes the 2013 merger of Advanced Emissions Solutions, Inc. with ADA-ES, Inc., the 2018 acquisition of ADA Carbon Solutions LLC, and the February 2023 acquisition of Arq Limited's subsidiaries to expand feedstock access and manufacturing capacity. In February 2024, the company rebranded and began trading under the ticker symbol ARQ on the Nasdaq Global Market.

The company holds 74 U.S. patents and 16 international patents as of December 31, 2025, with additional patent applications pending. Arq's competitive advantages include its domestic supply chain integration, proprietary activated carbon formulations, and established relationships with regulated industries dependent on environmental compliance solutions.
