The company traces its heritage to 1902 when Joseph Belden founded the original enterprise, though Belden Inc. was incorporated as a Delaware corporation in 1988. Over its 120-plus year history, the company has evolved through strategic acquisitions that expanded its product portfolio and market reach. Notable recent acquisitions include Voleatech GmbH, Precision Optical Technologies, CloudRail GmbH, and Berthold Sichert GmbH, which strengthened capabilities in firewall security, optical transceivers, cloud connectivity, and passive optical networks respectively.

Belden maintains a portfolio of prominent trademarks including Belden, Alpha Wire, Hirschfeld, Lumberg Automation, OTN Systems, PPC, ProSoft Technology, Thinklogical, and West Penn Wire. The company's competitive positioning rests on its ability to deliver comprehensive end-to-end network solutions, extensive product breadth, technical support capabilities, and distribution reach across global markets.
