In the company’s own words
BioAge Labs, Inc. (Nasdaq: BGEL) is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing therapeutic candidates for metabolic diseases by targeting the biology of human aging. The company's approach leverages proprietary longitudinal human datasets spanning over 50 years of follow-up data, encompassing more than 150 million molecular data points across 25,000 individual participant profiles. This unique resource enables BioAge to identify promising drug targets based on insights into molecular changes that drive aging and disease progression.
The company's lead program, BGE-102, is a potent, orally available, brain-penetrant small-molecule NLRP3 inflammasome inhibitor with a distinct mechanism and binding site from other NLRP3 inhibitors in development. BGE-102 has demonstrated robust target engagement and favorable pharmacokinetic properties in Phase 1 clinical trials. The company intends to advance BGE-102 in two therapeutic areas: cardiometabolic disease, with initial focus on atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease risk reduction through hsCRP reduction, and ophthalmology, targeting diabetic macular edema as a proof-of-concept indication.
Beyond NLRP3 inhibition, BioAge is developing novel apelin receptor APJ agonists for obesity treatment, including both oral and parenteral formulations. Preclinical data suggest APJ agonism can substantially enhance weight loss and restore healthy body composition when combined with existing obesity therapeutics. The company has established strategic collaborations with Eli Lilly and Company for earlier-stage platform-derived programs and maintains an ongoing target discovery collaboration with Novartis Pharma AG.
BioAge's intellectual property portfolio includes composition of matter claims and claims covering the novel NLRP3 binding site, with patent protection extending through 2045 prior to patent term restoration. The company's leadership team comprises experienced executives with extensive backgrounds in aging biology, drug development, and biopharmaceutical operations. BioAge operates as a smaller reporting company and is classified as a non-accelerated filer. More information is available at www.bioagelabs.com.
