What Bloom Energy Corp does
In the company’s own words
Bloom Energy Corporation (NYSE: BE) is a global leader in onsite power generation, designing and manufacturing proprietary fuel cell energy systems for commercial and industrial applications. The company's primary product, the Bloom Energy Server, uses high-temperature solid-oxide fuel cell technology to convert natural gas, biogas, or hydrogen into electricity through an electrochemical, non-combustion process. Bloom also manufactures the Bloom Electrolyzer, which produces hydrogen using the same solid oxide platform. Both products share a unified manufacturing approach and supply chain, enabling the company to serve multiple markets with a single core technology platform.
The company operates three primary market segments: Data Centers, Commercial and Industrial (C&I), and Utilities. Data center customers, particularly those operating artificial intelligence infrastructure, represent a growing segment seeking reliable, continuously available electricity with rapid deployment capabilities. The C&I market spans diverse sectors including advanced manufacturing, healthcare, retail, education, and critical infrastructure. Utilities increasingly explore onsite generation solutions to address capacity constraints and grid limitations.
Headquartered in Silicon Valley, Bloom Energy employs more than 2,000 people worldwide and manufactures its systems in the United States, with primary facilities in Fremont, California and Newark, Delaware. The company has deployed approximately 1,100 Energy Server systems across nine countries, with the United States representing its largest market by revenue and installed base. South Korea is the second-largest market, where Bloom operates through strategic partnerships with SK ecoplant Co., Ltd. and SK eternix Co., Ltd., supporting nearly 682 megawatts of deployed systems.
Bloom's competitive advantages include rapid time-to-power deployment, superior emissions profiles compared to traditional generators, high reliability and resilience through modular design, and compatibility with artificial intelligence workload requirements. The company's solid oxide fuel cell technology enables direct current power generation suitable for emerging 800-volt data center standards and provides load-following capabilities critical for variable AI computing environments. The Energy Server operates with approximately 99.9 percent availability for non-redundant installations and can achieve near 99.999 percent availability with redundancy configurations.
