What Cellectar Biosciences, Inc. does
In the company’s own words
Cellectar Biosciences, Inc. (CLRB: Nasdaq) is a late-stage clinical biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery, development, and commercialization of targeted cancer therapeutics. The company's website is www.cellectar.com.
The company's core objective centers on leveraging its proprietary phospholipid ether drug conjugate platform, known as PDC, to develop cancer-targeting treatments designed to deliver improved efficacy and better safety profiles through reduced off-target effects. This platform technology is engineered to provide selective delivery of diverse oncologic payloads to cancerous cells by exploiting a metabolic pathway utilized by nearly all tumor cell types, allowing PDCs to bind to specialized membrane microdomains and directly enter the intracellular compartment while avoiding lysosomes.
Cellectar's three lead programs represent different radioisotope approaches. CLR 125 is an iodine-125 Auger-emitting radioconjugate prepared to enter clinical trials in 2025, with preclinical data showing strong activity in triple negative breast cancer models. CLR 225 is an actinium-225 based alpha-emitting program demonstrating activity in pancreatic, colorectal, and breast cancer models. Iopofosine I-131, a beta-emitting iodine-131 based program, represents the company's most advanced candidate with extensive clinical development. In June 2025, the FDA granted Breakthrough Therapy Designation for iopofosine as a monotherapy for relapsed/refractory Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia, and the European Medicines Agency's Scientific Advice Working Party indicated that conditional marketing authorization filing could be acceptable.
The CLOVER WaM Phase 2 study of iopofosine in Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia patients achieved a major response rate of 58.2 percent, significantly exceeding the FDA's agreed-upon statistical hurdle of 20 percent. The company has also conducted clinical studies in multiple myeloma, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, pediatric cancers, and head and neck cancer. Beyond radioconjugates, Cellectar is developing small molecule phospholipid drug conjugates with novel payloads and linkers, as well as exploring peptide and oligonucleotide delivery capabilities through research collaborations. The company maintains orphan drug designations for iopofosine across multiple indications and holds European SME status, providing significant regulatory and financial incentives for development and commercialization activities.
