What CervoMed Inc. does
In the company’s own words
CervoMed Inc. (Nasdaq: CRVO) is a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing innovative treatments for age-related brain disorders. The company's lead drug candidate, neflamapimod, is an investigational orally administered small-molecule that selectively inhibits p38α, an enzyme believed to drive neuroinflammation and synaptic dysfunction in neurodegenerative diseases. By targeting neuroinflammation, neflamapimod has the potential to reverse synaptic dysfunction, improve neuron health, and slow or prevent disease progression.
CervoMed's primary focus is advancing neflamapimod for dementia with Lewy bodies, the second most common progressive dementia affecting millions worldwide, for which no approved treatments currently exist in the United States or European Union. The company's differentiated approach targets DLB patients without Alzheimer's disease co-pathology, a population representing approximately fifty percent of all DLB cases. This strategy enables demonstration of clinical effects in shorter trial durations with fewer patients compared to traditional neurodegenerative disease development programs. Beyond DLB, neflamapimod is in clinical development for non-fluent variant primary progressive aphasia, recovery after stroke, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
The company was formed through a merger completed on August 16, 2023, between Diffusion Pharmaceuticals Inc. and EIP Pharma Inc., with EIP surviving as a wholly-owned subsidiary. CervoMed's clinical pipeline includes the RewinD-LB Phase 2b trial, which demonstrated statistically significant improvements on clinical endpoints and biomarkers of neurodegeneration. In November 2025, the company announced alignment with the FDA on key aspects of its planned Phase 3 clinical trial in DLB, which is anticipated to initiate in the second half of 2026. The company received a $21.3 million grant from the National Institute on Aging to support the RewinD-LB Trial. CervoMed is classified as a smaller reporting company and non-accelerated filer.
