What CVD EQUIPMENT CORP does
In the company’s own words
CVD Equipment Corporation (NASDAQ: CVDE) operates as a designer, developer, and manufacturer of advanced materials processing equipment serving aerospace, semiconductor, battery energy storage, and industrial markets. The company maintains its website at www.cvdequipment.com and operates through two primary reportable segments following the planned sale of its SDC division to Atlas Copco Group.
The CVD Equipment segment designs and manufactures chemical vapor deposition, physical vapor transport, and thermal process equipment targeting production and research applications. This division produces systems marketed under the CVD and FirstNano product brands, including the PVT150 and PVT200 physical vapor transport systems for silicon carbide crystal growth, chemical vapor infiltration systems for ceramic matrix composite manufacturing in aerospace applications, and equipment for carbon nanotube and nanowire deposition used in battery materials. The SDC segment, which will be divested in the second quarter of 2026, manufactures ultra-high purity gas and chemical delivery control systems integrated into semiconductor fabrication, aerospace, and industrial processes. The MesoScribe segment, which provided direct write printed electronics services, ceased operations in September 2024 following an asset sale.
CVD Equipment maintains facilities totaling approximately 150,000 square feet across two locations in New York, with its primary manufacturing and engineering operations in Central Islip and its SDC division in Saugerties. As of December 31, 2025, the company employed 85 people across manufacturing, engineering, field service, sales and marketing, and administrative functions. The company serves a global customer base including aerospace and defense contractors, semiconductor manufacturers, universities, and research laboratories, with approximately 5.4 percent of revenues generated internationally.
Founded in 1982, CVD Equipment has developed over 40 years of expertise in chemical vapor deposition and thermal processing technologies. The company leverages proprietary process control software, an applications laboratory for customer collaboration, and a library of design solutions to provide customized equipment addressing emerging manufacturing challenges. In November 2025, the company initiated a comprehensive transformation strategy to transition from vertically integrated manufacturing to outsourced component fabrication, reducing fixed operating costs while exploring strategic alternatives for remaining business lines.
