Dollar Tree, Inc. (NASDAQ: DLTR) operates as a leading discount retailer in North America through its Dollar Tree banner, serving customers across approximately 9,000 stores in 48 states and the District of Columbia, plus approximately 275 stores across seven Canadian provinces. The company's website is www.dollartree.com.
The company operates a value retail business model centered on offering a broad selection of merchandise at attractive price points, with the majority of products priced at $1.25 in the United States and $1.75 CAD in Canada. Dollar Tree carries approximately 8,400 items per store, balancing everyday consumable products with seasonal and discretionary merchandise. The merchandise mix comprises consumable goods such as household paper, chemicals, food, candy, and health and personal care products, alongside discretionary items including toys, housewares, gifts, stationery, party goods, and seasonal merchandise. The company has expanded its multi-price offerings to provide customers with a broader assortment while maintaining its foundational value proposition.
Dollar Tree operates a vertically integrated supply chain with 16 distribution centers in the United States and third-party distribution services in Canada. The company sources approximately 40 percent of its retail value purchases directly from international suppliers, with China representing the majority of direct imports. The remaining merchandise is purchased domestically or through direct store delivery vendors. Approximately 90 percent of store inventory flows through the company's distribution network, while the remaining inventory, primarily perishable items, is delivered directly by vendors.
The company employs approximately 153,000 associates across store locations, distribution centers, and its store support center, comprising roughly 35,000 full-time and 118,000 part-time employees. In July 2025, Dollar Tree completed the sale of its Family Dollar business to 1959 Holdings, LLC, generating approximately $793 million in cash proceeds and allowing the company to focus on Dollar Tree as a standalone banner.
The company's strategic initiatives include expanding store footprint, improving store conditions and operational standards, optimizing shelf space productivity, enhancing supply chain capabilities through distribution center modernization, and expanding digital offerings through partnerships with Instacart and Uber Eats. Dollar Tree differentiates itself through convenient suburban store locations, merchandise quality and value proposition, and a treasure-hunt shopping experience featuring new seasonal and promotional items.
