The company operates through two primary reportable segments: Retirement Solutions and Portfolio Management. The Retirement Solutions segment handles all loan origination and acquisition activities, generating revenue from origination fees and initial net origination gains. The Portfolio Management segment provides structuring, product development, securitization, loan sales, risk management, and asset management services, generating revenue primarily from net interest income and fair value changes on portfolio assets.
Finance of America specializes in originating and acquiring home equity conversion mortgage (HECM) loans insured by the Federal Housing Administration, non-agency reverse mortgage loans, and certain traditional home equity loan products. The company distributes its products through a retail channel consisting of a centralized retail platform and a third-party originator channel comprising a network of mortgage brokers. The company securitizes HECM loans into Ginnie Mae-guaranteed mortgage-backed securities and sells them in the secondary market while retaining servicing rights. Non-agency reverse mortgage loans are either securitized into privately placed mortgage-backed securities or sold as whole loans to investors.
As of December 31, 2025, Finance of America employed 784 full-time and part-time U.S.-based employees, along with 48 contractors in the United States and 93 contractors in the Philippines. The company maintains a diversified funding structure with $1.7 billion in committed or uncommitted loan funding capacity across 15 lending facilities with 11 different counterparties as of year-end 2025.
The company targets homeowners aged 55 and over, addressing what it identifies as a substantial underserved market.
