What Finwise Bancorp does
In the company’s own words
FinWise Bancorp, a Utah-based bank holding company trading on the NASDAQ under ticker symbol FINW, operates as a technology-focused financial institution serving consumers and small businesses nationwide. The company conducts its business through wholly-owned subsidiary FinWise Bank, a Utah state-chartered bank, along with a twenty percent membership interest in Business Funding Group, LLC, a nationally significant SBA loan referral source.
FinWise Bancorp operates three reportable segments reflecting its diversified business model. The traditional banking segment provides loan and deposit products to consumers and businesses both nationally and throughout the Salt Lake City metropolitan area, with a single full-service branch location in Sandy, Utah. The banking-as-a-service segment delivers lending, card, and payments solutions to fintech brands across the nation. The treasury and administration segment manages investments, nationally-sourced deposits supporting other business segments, and corporate functions.
The company maintains a diversified loan portfolio across four primary lending areas: nationwide Strategic Programs, a multi-state SBA 7(a) lending program, residential and owner-occupied commercial real estate lending, and multi-state equipment financing. As of December 31, 2025, the company held approximately $585.5 million in loans held-for-investment, with Strategic Program loans comprising 22.2 percent of the portfolio, SBA loans representing 35.1 percent, commercial leases accounting for 13.4 percent, and residential real estate comprising 10.2 percent. The company originated approximately $5.7 billion in Strategic Program loans during 2025 and $116.7 million in SBA 7(a) loans.
FinWise Bancorp funds its lending activities through a diversified funding strategy combining core deposits from branch operations, deposits from SBA and Strategic Program relationships, brokered deposits, and borrowings. Core deposits constituted 28.6 percent of funding sources as of year-end 2025. The company maintains an investment securities portfolio and manages liquidity to support its lending operations and general banking purposes. FinWise Bancorp was formed in 2002 and acquired Utah Community Bank, a local community bank founded in 1999 focusing on real estate lending in the Salt Lake City area.
