What GENELUX Corp does

In the company’s own words

Genelux Corporation is a late clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing next-generation oncolytic viral immunotherapies for patients with aggressive and difficult-to-treat tumor types. The company trades on The Stock Market LLC and maintains its website at genelux.com.

The company's lead product candidate, Olvi-Vec (olvimulogene nanivacirepvec), is a proprietary modified strain of vaccinia virus designed to selectively kill tumor cells while inducing a robust immune response against patient tumor neoantigens. Olvi-Vec represents an "off-the-shelf" personalized immunotherapy approach, where the same viral product administered to different patients generates cellular immune responses specific to each patient's unique neoantigens. The company is executing a late-stage clinical program evaluating Olvi-Vec across three ongoing trials: a Phase 3 registrational trial in the United States for platinum-resistant/refractory ovarian cancer, a Phase 2 trial in the United States for recurrent non-small cell lung cancer, and a Phase 1b/2 trial in China for recurrent small cell lung cancer.

Genelux developed its proprietary CHOICE discovery platform, which enables rapid development of oncolytic vaccinia virus immunotherapy candidates. The company has generated an extensive portfolio containing over 500 different versions of vaccinia virus armed with more than 110 transgenes possessing various engineered immune modulatory and tumor cell-killing properties.

The company operates a cGMP manufacturing facility in San Diego, California, producing clinical trial material and intended commercial supply. Genelux also leases a second building at the same location for laboratory capabilities and administrative offices. In September 2021, the company entered into a license agreement with Newsoara BioPharma granting exclusive rights to develop and commercialize Olvi-Vec in mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau, with potential milestone payments up to $160.5 million and royalties on net sales.

As a smaller reporting company, Genelux has incurred significant losses since inception and anticipates continued losses as it advances its clinical development programs. The company's intellectual property portfolio consists of 12 issued United States patents, 9 issued foreign patents, and 7 pending foreign patent applications relating to product composition, methods of use, and manufacturing processes, with issued patents expected to expire between 2026 and 2038.
