What Generac does

In the company’s own words

Generac Holdings Inc. (GNRC: NYSE) is a leading global designer, manufacturer, and provider of energy technology solutions founded in 1959. The company's website is located at generac.com. Generac operates as a diversified industrial technology company serving residential, commercial, industrial, data center, telecom, and rental markets with a comprehensive portfolio of backup power generation equipment, energy storage systems, energy management devices, and related solutions.

The company's product portfolio spans three primary segments. Residential products, representing 53.9% of 2025 net sales, include automatic standby generators ranging from 7.5kW to 150kW, portable and inverter generators, home energy storage systems marketed under the PWRcell brand, microinverters, and outdoor power equipment sold under the DR brand. Commercial and Industrial products, comprising 34.6% of sales, encompass stationary generators from 10kW to 3,250kW, light towers, mobile generators, and C&I battery energy storage systems. Other products and services, accounting for 11.5% of revenue, include aftermarket parts, installation services, extended warranties, and recurring software subscription revenues.

Generac maintains one of the broadest product offerings in the power generation marketplace with single-engine outputs ranging between 800W and 3,250kW. The company has established the industry's largest network of factory-direct independent generator dealers in North America and operates a balanced global distribution network with no single customer exceeding 4% of net sales. The company's competitive strengths include engineering expertise, manufacturing excellence, and an expanding ecosystem of integrated energy technology products and solutions.

Strategic acquisitions have expanded Generac's capabilities significantly, including ecobee for smart home energy management, Deep Sea for advanced controls, Blue Pillar for IoT connectivity, REFU and SunGrid for battery energy storage systems, and Ageto for microgrid control technology. The company's "Powering a Smarter World" strategic plan focuses on three key objectives: improving energy resilience and independence, optimizing energy efficiency and consumption, and innovating to protect critical infrastructure. Recent product launches include next-generation home standby generators, large mega-watt diesel generators for data centers, PWRcell 2 energy storage systems, and Generac-branded microinverters.
