The company operates through two reportable segments: Construction and Materials. The Construction segment focuses on the construction and rehabilitation of roads, pavement preservation, bridges, rail lines, airports, marine ports, dams, reservoirs, aqueducts, and infrastructure development. This segment also provides complex project services including mining, tunnel construction, solar and battery storage projects, and other power-related infrastructure. The Materials segment produces and delivers aggregates, asphalt concrete, liquid asphalt, and recycled materials for both internal use in construction projects and sale to third parties.

Granite maintains vertically integrated operations across Alaska, Arizona, California, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, Oregon, Tennessee, Utah, and Washington, with additional regional civil construction presence in the Midwest, Florida, and Texas. The company operates national businesses including a Tunnel division, Federal division performing work across the continental United States and Guam, an Industrial & Energy division focused on commercial solar construction, and the Layne division providing water well drilling and rehabilitation services.

As of December 31, 2025, Granite employed approximately 2,500 salaried employees and 3,300 hourly employees, with hourly personnel fluctuating seasonally between 2,500 and 5,200 based on project volume. Approximately seventy percent of construction segment revenue derives from federal, state, and local government agencies and authorities. The company's largest customer is the California Department of Transportation, representing 10.1 percent of total revenue in 2025. Committed and Awarded Projects totaled 7.0 billion dollars as of December 31, 2025.

Granite's competitive advantages include ownership and leasing of aggregate reserves, vertically integrated processing plants, strong local market relationships across its geographic footprint, and financial strength as a publicly traded company with established operational processes and governance frameworks.
